Three school board women circle a tiny new gym uniform like sharks. Serene holds the shorts up, frowning at the slit up the side. Ember brushes a thumb along the thin spandex. “This could ride up,” she says, voice already thick. Syren nods. Serene sighs—until her stepdaughter, Sophia, strolls in grinning.
