Idle Fantasies: Come Dance For Me

Rachael Cavalli steps up to the neighbor’s porch with a casserole in her hands. The couple next door is away, their daughter Laney Grey left behind, and Rachael offered to check in, maybe drop off a meal. She knocks. Nobody answers. So she walks around back and stops cold at the window. Laney’s dancing, naked except for a thin tank and a thong, grinding to some beat, hips rolling slow and dirty. Rachael watches. She can’t look away. Then Laney turns, sees her, and everything freezes. Laney’s cheeks burn, but Rachael just smiles. She runs a club downtown—exotic dancers, decent customers, better money. Says Laney’s got potential. Laney lights up at the idea, admits she’s thought about it, but her moves still need work. Rachael steps inside. “Mirror lesson. Right now.” She stands behind the girl, palms sliding over Laney’s waist, tilting her pelvis, fingers brushing the curve of her spine, the heat rising fast. They sway together. Hands linger. Breaths catch. The room gets smaller. Practice turns into something else—Rachael gripping, guiding, pulling Laney tighter, that practiced touch sliding down, lower, until the lesson stops being about dancing at all.
