Role Models: Out Of Her Comfort Zone

Aiden Ashley just ditched her old life, got divorced, and decided she was tired of being a closeted case. She shows up at the pool for a swim lesson, then nearly bails when she catches a look at herself. Whitney Wright, the instructor, blocks her escape. She’s in a tiny blue bikini, skin already golden. Aiden mutters that she feels like a train wreck in a one-piece nightmare she packed, nothing like the confident woman across from her. Whitney says Aiden’s wrong—dead wrong—about how good she looks. The original suit is a mistake, sure, but Whitney’s got a spare red two-piece that’s never been worn. Aiden takes it, ducks inside the house, strips down, and tries not to stare as she sees Whitney lather lotion over her own thighs, slow and casual. When Aiden comes out, Whitney’s eyes go wide. No words needed; the look says plenty. Aiden cracks her first real smile. Thanks her. Admits the divorce still stings, still makes her feel invisible. Whitney says she’s gay too, offers the keys to a bigger scene: friends, bars, late nights that actually belong to them. Aiden warms fast. This lesson was half swim, half escape hatch. She wants both.
