Dana Vespoli and Katie Morgan linger in the kitchen, the winter light sliding across the counters while they watch their families wrestle on the grass. "Boys,” Katie says, half affection, half sigh. “Can’t tell where ours end and their fathers begin.” Dana laughs, a short, throaty sound. “We did marry the big ones, didn’t we?” she answers, but she smiles like she’s not complaining. The air softens. “Still,” Katie murmurs, eyes flicking to Dana, "it feels good to let them run themselves ragged and get the house to ourselves for once." Dana’s gaze lingers, warm. "Yeah. Rare thing.”
Katie’s laugh breaks, too dry. "Guess we shouldn’t complain. Except maybe when things get too quiet upstairs." Dana studies her. "Too quiet?" Katie’s shrug looks practiced. “Bedroom quiet. Same route, same distance, same truck-bed rut.” A hush. Dana sighs. “Been there.” They trade war stories, the early awkward silence, then the desperate fix. “We decided to make time,” Dana says. Then, lighter: "And when nothing worked, well—I learned to open my own toy drawer.”
Katie blinks, a half-smile stuck halfway. “You mean…?" "Fingers. Curve. Pressure. Yeah." Katie shakes her head, the embarrassment breaking across her throat like heat. “Never tried.” Dana leans forward, tongue clicking. “A woman your age?” The challenge lands light but refuses to move. Katie exhales, half dare, half surrender. “Show me?"
They climb the stairs two at a time, still laughing at their own hunger. Upstairs Dana kicks the door shut. She sits cross-legged on the duvet, hiking her skirt, and starts slow—two fingers drawing circles that the light catches in small, slick pulses. Katie mirrors her. Dana talks low and even: "A little tighter. Yeah. There. Take your time. That’s it." Breath shortens. Pulses quicken. The room shrinks to mouths parted, sheets gripped, two bodies learning their own rhythm. When the first tremor hits Katie she gasps like she’s falling off a ledge; Dana follows right behind, a low curse stitched between clenched teeth. They pant, slowing. Silence stretches, electric.
Dana’s eyes drift between Katie’s thighs, wet and still fluttering. Her tongue sweeps her lower lip. "You know,” she says, voice rough velvet, "there’s something I’ve been wanting to taste." Katie smiles slow, corners curling. "Thought you’d never ask."
They lean in, kiss open and greedy. Sheets rustle. Bodies twist. Somewhere below, the boys yell and chase each other, but upstairs these two mothers have already decided the afternoon is theirs, loud, slick, and completely out of bounds.
