Dinner Scene

Penny turns dinner into a goddamn fever dream the second Laney steps across the threshold. She’s locked onto those black-stocking legs like a thief eyeing diamonds. She opens with praise—compliments so charged they barely sound like compliments—and Laney smiles the guilty smile of a woman who knows she’s already being undressed in someone else’s mind.
Throughout the meal Penny refuses to let her blink. She talks across her husband, leans over wineglasses, dangles a fork, drops her napkin twice. First time she slides her palm slow up the nylon from ankle to mid-thigh. Laney tenses, swallows, says nothing. Second time the fingers stay longer, pressing, sliding back down with deliberate friction. Every stroke sends heat straight between her legs and she covers it with a sip of water, eyes fixed on her plate.
Penny pushes once more beneath the cloth, knuckle-brushing damp silk and receiving a tiny shiver in return. When her husband leans back to laugh, Penny straightens, chews her lip, then declares she needs help carrying dessert. Laney nods, stands on unsteady heels.
They leave the dining room without a look back. The bedroom door clicks shut. Silk meets silk, hips grind against pantyhose sheen, tongues taste lipstick and sweat. They never make it past the bed. In minutes they’re gasping, rubbing, sighing each other’s names like a secret both have waited their whole married lives to speak.
