Apollo shows up at the window while Lulu crams for finals. One look at him and she feels the week-long ache tighten low in her belly. She ought to shove him back outside—her mother’s footsteps creak two floors below—but he’s already climbing inside, lips hungry, already pushing her books to the floor. The bed creaks in time with each roll of her hips; downstairs, a door opens.
