Charles sat on the couch still simmering about Kenzie's little tumble with Kristen. She kept circling him with that devil-may-care smile, telling him he could have a cut of the action if he wanted in. Told him the three of them together might finally quit the score between them. He gave in like he always does when her lips are near his ear. An hour later Kristen knocked, expecting nothing more than coffee and gossip. She stepped inside still wearing yesterday's lipstick, not knowing the door was closing on anything simple.
