Alexis shows up at Maya’s with no clue she’s about to crash her own dating history. Maya lets her in, bright-eyed, hugs her too long like she forgot the break-up. Alexis keeps it polite, asks how the new girl’s doing. Door opens again, Evelyn steps inside, tank top low, hair still wet. She stops. They all stop. Alexis looks at Evelyn. Evelyn looks at Alexis. Maya stares between them. Somebody laughs first. Evelyn tries to say something friendly and coughs instead. "Your ex-girlfriend?" she asks Maya. Maya nods. "Small world." They keep joking, call themselves another couple of rabbits in the same burrow, everyone tasting everyone else’s leftover lipstick. Alexis waves it off like it’s a coincidence, but all three remember the nights too well. Maya crosses her arms, angles a sly grin. "We’ve already fucked in every possible combination. Might as well pick up the set." She waits. Alexis scoffs, changes the subject, picks it up again. The room feels hotter. Maya steps close, fingers brushing Alexis’ forearm, turning the touch into something obvious. Evelyn moves behind Alexis, presses the front of her body to the back of Alexis’ thighs. Alexis exhales like the air went out of a tire and stays right where she is. She tilts her head back when Maya kisses her neck, when Evelyn’s hands reach under her shirt. Clothes come off quick. Alexis winds up stretched across Maya’s bed, Maya between her legs tasting her, Evelyn straddling Alexis’ face, lowering down so Alexis can put her tongue back to work she’s already perfected.
