Pastor Tommy walks ahead of them through the dark church. He flips on lights that barely cut the gloom. Mary says it's perfect—they want something small and quiet. Just the two of them. When she chirps that they'll see him tomorrow, Tommy's expression turns hard. Marriage is a sacred bond, he says. Second thoughts better come out now. Mary tells him she's certain. Michael echoes her a beat late, eyes somewhere else. Tommy scratches his neck and that weird mark shows again. Then he's gone. Mary waits until the door shuts before she turns on Michael. What's wrong, she asks. Michael swallows and says they barely know anyone here. They just moved. Mary keeps rubbing her belly and says they can't wait. Michael's quiet again but nods. Later he tells her a real wedding would at least have a party—her shower, his send-off. Mary pauses, then tells him to go get the bachelor night he wants. Strip club, motel, whatever. She'll be fine. Michael argues but finally gives in. That night Joanna finishes her set. Same mark on every guy she sees. Backstage she corners Aubrey, sees the glossed-over look. Mortality's a bitch, Joanna says. Find a soft soul, drain it dry. Aubrey heads out, spots Michael alone. She walks straight over and makes her offer. Minutes later she's on her knees upstairs, fingers already at his zipper. Michael hesitates one last second before Aubrey's mouth takes him down. He has no idea she plans to steal a lot more than his wedding night.
