Chloe Foster pushes through the door for her three o'clock, and Kenna James slides a clipboard across the counter without looking up. Chloe catches sight of Cherie DeVille when the doctor appears, and heat flares in her chest like someone just lit a match inside her ribs. She leans in, voice low, saying how she likes an older woman in a white coat. Kenna watches it happen, jaw tight, knuckles white around a pen she pretends to need. Sara Vandella follows minutes later, long legs and slow smile. While Kenna hands over the form, Sara cocks her head and asks if those cheekbones ever saw a camera lens. Kenna’s shoulders stiffen, but she keeps it professional, eyes straight ahead. Cherie steers Sara into the exam room; Sara still talks about Kenna’s legs all the way down the hall. Cherie smiles tight-lipped, clicks the door, then can’t get back to reception fast enough. Once Sara’s gone, Cherie tells Kenna she needs an extra pair of hands. The moment the exam-room door seals, Cherie slams her mouth over Kenna’s and grabs two fistfuls of blouse. Kenna freezes, breath caught. "Door," she whispers. "No one left," Cherie answers, teeth scraping Kenna’s lower lip. "All afternoon."
